2023 Apprenticeship Graduates

Governor Mike Parsons meeting apprentices and learning about the apprenticeship program at Fort Zumwalt East High Metals Lab.

U.S. Department of Labor Nationally Recognized Apprenticeships

The U.S. Department of Labor defines apprenticeship as an “earn and learn” training model that combines work-based learning with related classroom instruction using the highest industry standards. It is a means to formalize work-based learning, so workers know exactly how to progress toward their career goals, and companies know who is on the path toward promotion into new positions or to replace retiring workers.

Businesses, workforce professionals, educators, and others are looking to apprenticeship programs as an effective way to start high school students and other youth on a career pathway that leads to good wages and opportunities for advancement.

What is the Fort Zumwalt Apprenticeship Program and how does it work?

Students that are interested in applying for the Fort Zumwalt Apprenticeship Program need to enroll and complete one of the many Career Technical Education (CTE) Apprenticeship Courses offered at Fort Zumwalt School District. (Industrial Tech, Business, FACS, Healthcare, IT, etc.) Once they have completed the course, they can fill out the application including  two instructor recommendations. Applicants will then be asked to interview at a local business partner for the apprenticeship position they have selected. If hired, the applicant will be registered with the USDOL Recognized Apprenticeship Program, and complete the requirements set forth by the program. Minimum hours of on the job training is 2000 hours. The 2000 hours do not have to be completed by a students graduation,  Students may continue the pursuit of the Apprenticeship after graduation.
